Two more “Citizens’ Panels” held in Portugal and Bulgaria to discuss social justice and the environment

20230527_170244Two more »Citizens Panels« took place as part of the Parliament for the Future of Europe project in May and June. Project aims to put a diverse group of people from marginalised and underrepresented groups at the centre of the debate on the future of Europe. Together with  six project partners, we brought together a diverse group of participants to discuss the proposals that emerged from the public assembly »Conference on the Future of Europe« on the topics of social justice and the environment.

At an event in Évora (Portugal), organised by The Portuguese Platform for Women’s Rights, participants scrutinised and reformulated recommendations on the economy and social justice, with a view to making them more inclusive and relevant to the needs of vulnerable communities. They are available here.

In Burgas (Bulgaria), the focus of the debate was on climate and environment. After short presentations by three experts in the field, we worked in groups to discuss the different factors affecting the environment and how to effectively address climate change and environmental degradation at different levels – by regulating the biggest environmental polluters as well as by educating a wide range of target groups about »zero-waste« lifestyle. The event was organised by the partners Bulgarian Association for the Promotion of Citizens Initiative.

After the summer break, we continue with the fourth »Citizens’ Panel«, which will be held on the 22nd of September in Zagreb, organised by project partners Lota’s box on the topic of youth, culture and education.
