Seminar on empowering migrants’ voices in integration and inclusion policies

On 31. May 2023 Mirovni inštitut/Peace Institute, Kulturno društvo Gmajna/ Gmajna Cultural Society and Skupnost občin Slovenije/ Association of Municipalities and Towns of Slovenia, in cooperation with Mestna občina Ljubljana/Ljubljana Municipality, organised a seminar on empowering migrants’ voices in integration and inclusion policies. The aim of the seminar was to look at the possibilities of political participation of migrants at institutional and local level in Ljubljana. Seminar was hosted by Deputy Mayor Dejan Crnek with the participation of the representatives of all departments of Ljubljana Municipality. Special guest of the seminar were representatives of the Graz Migrants’ Advisory Council/Migrant:innenbeirat Graz, Irina Karamarković, actual president and Godwill Eyawo, managing director, who presented their work and the history of their council. Migrant leaders and representatives from Ljubljana: Aigul Hakimova, Gmajna Cultural Society; Furkan Güner, Society for Intercultural Dialogue; Daniel Nzotam, African Village Institute; Biljana Žikić, Cultural Center Danilo Kiš and Hasan Alhallaq, Infokolpa, presented the challenges they face in their attempts to integrate into the local community.
