Singleness. Between the ideology of family and the ideology of choice
The Arestej publishing house published a new book by Iztok Šori entitled Singleness. Between the ideology of family and the ideology of choice (DIalogi collection).
The frequent mention of singleness in public discourse and the simultaneous prevalence of clichés about it call for a sociological observation of the real life courses and situations of single people. This is also the purpose of this book, which is the first scientific monograph on singleness in Slovenia in general. Iztok Šori places singles and not families at the center of his research, which, according to current research practice, is also a sociological experiment. In the book, he analyzes how the economic, social, cultural and individual contexts of singleness have changed throughout modern history, how the position of singles has changed and how singles live and think today. It also raises the question of when singleness can be defined as a lifestyle or what characterizes singleness and singleness by choice.
