Youth, Participatory Democracy and the Media (YOUp@)
The project goal is to encourage the participation of young people in the democratic process through the new media (Internet, social networks, digital media, etc). To achieve these goals, the project introduces different activities by young people for young people:
– a web 2.0 www.youpa-project.eu platform for sharing ideas (forum), providing information (library and WIKI) and facilitating personal expression (blogs) open for young people all over the word.
– An intercultural “Youth parliament on democracy” event among 24 young people will be held to discuss this and more questions from 24-28 May 2010 in the Basque Country (Spain)
– A final document (“Solemn Resolution”) containing all the decisions and conclusions reached thought the website and the “Youth parliament on democracy event” which will be widely circulated to decision makers, youth organizations and media representatives throughout Europe.
– A video-documentary will be produced to illustrate the Youth Parliament and present the “Resolution” to a wide public.
The objectives of the project are:
– to launch a debate between youngsters from different European areas with different political traditions and a different view of participatory democracy focusing on the theme “youth, participatory democracy and the media”
– to prepare, prolong and intensify the debate through a website (web 2.0 platform) allowing a large number of youngsters from the three partners countries (as well as from other countries) to take part in the discussion
– to produce a video-documentary of the entire project to illustrate the debate and present the “Resolution” to a wide public
– to organise a five day intensive “Youth Parliament on Democracy” event, with the aim to identify concrete ways and actions to increase the participation of youngsters in the democratic process through the new medias
– to produce a “Solemn Resolution” which will be widely circulated to decision makers, youth organisations and media representatives throughout Europe.
