On 26 November 2024, the Peace Institute organised an international workshop on labour migration within the framework of the project “JUSTMIG – Sustainable and Socially Just Transnational Sectoral Labour Markets: Industrial Relations and Labour Market Adjustment to the Rise in Temporary Labour Migration”. Together with our partners CREDI from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research from Austria, we presented the interim results of our research on labour migration between Austria, Slovenia and BiH. We then discussed the working and living conditions of labour migrants with representatives of governmental and non-governmental organisations, and then the role of the social partners in preventing abuses. Discussions focused on old migrations in the region and on new overseas migrations from Asia.
The participants were addressed by the project coordinator, Dr Tibor Meszmann from Slovakia (Central European Labour Studies Institute, CELSI). From Slovenia, the workshop was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Labour, the Employment Service, the Workers’ Advisory Service and the Centre for Social Research CEDRA. From Austria, the organisation of migrant caregivers IG24 and the trade union PRO-GE participated. From Bosnia and Herzegovina, the workshop was attended by representatives of the Agency for Labour and Employment of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Employment Service of the Republika Srpska.
